1) What is the difference between semi-custom and custom?
When choosing a semi-custom unit you will be choosing a standard cap size (sm, med, lg, x-lg) whereas with a custom unit you will need to provide specific measurements of your head.
2) What exactly is a Lace Wig?
So, you've never heard of a lace wig, well you're not alone. In the past lace wigs were used mainly by actors and people who suffered from hair loss due to medical problems. But recently, celebrities have made lace wigs more widely popular. A lace wig is unlike any other wig. They are so realistic and seamless that you can be sitting right next to someone and not know they are wearing a wig! This is because s lace wig is constructed on a very sheer lace (mesh) cap material. The key feature is that at the hairline, which when parted looks incredibly natural, as if the hair is growing right out of the scalp. The lace wig is adhered to your skin at the hair line perimeter (with your preferred lace wig adhesive and/or tape) and disappears. You can even wear a lace with in a a high ponytail or up do depending on the type of lace wig cap you order! In addition to custom wigs Ultimate hair Illusions offers all types of prosthetic hair units.
3) What is Remy Hair and Virgin Hair?
"Remy Hair" is the highest level of professionally processed human hair that gives the most natural appearance. It is the preferred choice for wigs and hairpieces, it versatile and available in many processed colors and textures. "Virgin Hair" is truly the most superior and pure hair choice. It has never been chemically processed or altered in color or texture. The hair cuticle is in correct alignment from root to ends (with all of the cuticles going in the same direction). It is tangle-free and the most manageable. The hair is very healthy and natural in appearance texture and last the longest.
4) WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT GRADES OF HUMAN HAIR?
Our units made with European, Latin, Indian, Malaysian and Indonesian soft and bouncy 100% Human Virgin Hair from 8" to 24".
Human hair comes in many different textures and grades. The human hair must be strong and healthy to produce extensions that will last and wear without tangling or drying. We use Grade A Virgin Human Hair cut from 1-2 donors depending on the density requested. Be aware of resellers that use cheap factory wigs with blends poor grades of hair and only cost under $50 to make that only last a few months. Our wigs TRULY last years.
There are four types of hair generally used in making human hair wigs: Chinese, Indian, Indonesian and Caucasian (European) hair. We use Indonesian, Chinese, Indian, Latin, and Caucasian (European) hair human hair! European hair is the least plentiful, and therefore it is very expensive to the point where the price can be prohibitive to the average wig wearer. Asian hair is the most plentiful and least expensive, but it can be of coarse texture. This texture is mostly suitable for wear by women of Asian or African descent, as it is generally similar in texture to their own.
5) WHAT IS ASIAN HAIR?
Indonesian hair is thinner and softer than Malaysian, Chinese or Indian. We use Indonesian Hair. Indonesian hair is very light and bouncy -- very similar to European Hair. Chinese hair is very thick and coarse -- We use coarse Chinese hair for our relaxed wigs -- it should be noted here that not all processed Chinese hair is coarse. Sometimes a texturizing process is performed on the hair to reduce the diameter of each hair to make it more resemble European texture.
However, this involves a high degree of processing, decreasing the life of the wig.
6) WHAT IS REMY HAIR?
Human hair collected directly from a hair donor is Remy Hair. It is sometimes referred to as Cuticle Hair, Virgin Hair and Cut Hair. The majority of human hair sold in the industry is non-cuticle hair. Using an acid-bath has stripped the hair cuticle. With Remy hair we do not do this so the hair cuticle is intact, therefore the hair is stronger. Manufacturers have long used Indian hair.
7) WHAT IS EUROPEAN HAIR?
High quality human hair, which is harvested from a person of European or Caucasian ancestry. This type hair is used for custom made wigs because of the exceptional strength, quality and beauty, and is also used by manufacturers of high quality stock human hair wigs. European hair. European hair is very soft and silky, and is preferred by many Caucasian women because it resembles the texture of their own hair. However, in some cases, European hair can be too fine and limp to hold a style. While Indian hair is similar to European in texture on its own, without having to undergo the extra processing, it has more body and therefore is a better choice for making wigs. As an added benefit, Indian hair is much less expensive than European, and so this hair is very desirable by those who prefer a more silky textured human hair wig, without the high price of European.
8) WHAT IS LATIN HAIR?
Donors of Latin hair reside in Brazil and Dominican Republic. Latin hair curl texture rages from 4.5cm to approximately 3cm. absolutely stunning.
9) WHY DO UNITS WITH VIRGIN HAIR COST MORE MONEY?
Virgin hair is the best quality hair on the market. It is rare in availability and harvested from actual human donors. It is not blended/mixed with synthetic hair. It is not processed so it is exceptionally healthy. It is high in demand and low in supply. It is also the most versatile to style and easy to maintain (no matting up or tangling after a few days or weeks since the cuticle in correct alignment from roots to ends).
10) CAN I COLOR OR ADD HIGHLIGHTS TO MY VIRGIN HAIR UNIT MYSELF?
Yes, you can. Because this is virgin hair, it can be lifted, bleached, dyed, colored with semi or permanent color, you can use henna...anything you can do with your own hair, you can do with virgin hair. Please note: If you do not have the experience to successfully manipulate hair color, we highly advise that you take it to a Professional Cosmetologist/Colorist to avoid damaging the hair. Once chemically treated, the hair is no longer "virgin" hair.

Guidelines for Filing Initial Insurance Claims: Most insurance policies cover "Prescribed Cranial Prosthesis" but do not cover wigs. The Insurance C.P.T code most commonly used is CPT-ORN-1. Get a letter and/or prescription from your doctor. Make sure that the letter or prescription is for "Prescribed Cranial Prosthesis" It should not say "wig". If it does, have it redone, otherwise your claim will most likely be refused. Have a receipt from the person performing the service (from whom you purchase the Cranial Prosthesis). Make sure it says "Prescribed Cranial Prosthesis". Have the person who performed the service sign-off on your claim; i.e. the Physician’s "Dr.’s” portion of your claim form.
Waiting for your claim to be processed: Prepare yourself in the event that your claim denied: Know your rights as the insured party. Obtain a copy of your FULL contract with your carrier (most of us only have a "Summary of Benefits" provided by the employer). Read and know your contract.
Pay attention to the "exclusions". "Wigs" are excluded for cosmetics reasons. Also, pay special attention to Prosthesis coverage. Most policies do not spell out exclusions under Prosthesis, and this is how you are likely to have your claim accepted. Submitting your appeal - (after denial of claim as not a covered benefit), write asking for a review by the Medical Review Board. Attach copy of original claims. In your letter, inform them of the difference between a wig and Prosthesis. A wig is a fashion item and not a necessity. Prosthesis is a necessity comparable to plastic surgery for a burn victim. Ask for a written reply. Companies try to avoid putting anything in writing. Address your letter to a supervisor in the Claim Department.

Wigs take 6-8 weeks, Frontal and Closure Pieces may take 4-6 weeks and Weft Hair may take 2-4 weeks.
15) WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FULL LACE WIG, LACE FRONT WIG, AND A LACE FRONTAL?
"Full Lace Wigs" are lace wigs which are designed with the entire wig cap being made from lace as well as lace all around the perimeter of the wig. Full lace wigs allow you to wear your hair in high up dos and ponytails. Upon applying and attaching the lace wig, a flawless, natural and undetectable hairline is created. A "Lace Front Wig" or Front Lace Wig only has lace in the front of the wig and the remainder of the wig is made from a regular netted wig cap or other materials such as thin-skin. You are not able to wear a front lace wig in high up dos or ponytails. A "Lace Frontal" is not a wig but partial lace unit that's applied/adhered to the front hairline. Frontals are great for women who suffer from thinning hairlines and wish to add fullness to the front hairline. The lace frontal is applied to the front hairline area, for a natural undetectable look, and your natural hair is worn out, or extensions are applied to the rest of the hair.
16) WHAT IS A "WIDOWS PEAK" AND A "NATURAL HAIRLINE"?
A "natural" hairline is commonly referred to as a "straight" hairline. Where the hair grows out of your scalp in a straight area above your forehead. A "widow's peak, "M shaped hairline" or "Pointed Hairline" is where your front hairline makes the shape of an "M" or comes down in a point above your forehead.
17) What IS "BABY HAIR" AND "BLEACHED KNOTS"?
Baby hair is fine, short hair hand knotted around the perimeter. The purpose is to make the hairline look natural. Bleached knots is the actual lightening or gentle "bleaching" of the hand tied knots at the very base of the wig in the front hairline are, this prevents a "hair-plug" look and also helps the unit look very natural
18) WHAT IS A "SILK TOP" OR "MONO TOP"?
With our Silk Top option, the hair can be parted at the top/front & crown area (where the silk top is constructed) and has the appearance of hair growing from a real, natural a scalp! The light weight Silk Top material resembles skin, and the individual strands of hair are injected into the silk top (not hand tied knots like the rest of the lace wig).
19) WHO CAN WEAR A CUTOM UNIT?
Our wigs are for anyone - Adults, teens and children. Also perfect for cancer patients, alopecia patients, and anyone going through hair loss due to chemotherapy or scalp disease.
20) CAN I STILL WEAR A CUSTOM UNIT IF I HAVE A FULL HEAD OF HAIR?
YES, all you have to do is braid your hair in small flat cornrows either in a beehive or straight back. Or you can wrap your hair flat back. Then use a wig cap to keep your natural hair in place. It's that simple!
21) WILL A CUSTOM UNIT DAMAGE MY HAIRLINE?
If you have a healthy hairline and your Lace Wig has to be glued down, yes. If you have a healthy hairline and want to maintain it, we recommend you purchase our "Glueless Silk-Top Mono Lace Wig". Glue and tape required for application of Full and Lace Front Wigs Units will overtime damage your hairline if applied directly over your real hair. There are however Lace Wig application methods that allow for a wig to be applied without direct contact to a full/healthy hairline. Professional application by an experienced Cosmetologist and/or Lace Wig Application Expert is recommended to achieve this.
22) WHICH WIG "CAP" STYLE SHOULD I CHOOSE?
The most important question is will you want to wear your wig in an up do or ponytail or not? If so, you will want to choose our Full Lace Hair Unit wig cap style ("CAP-C") - our Full Lace wig cap has no stretch and is constructed with French and Swiss Lace for ultimate invisibility. "CAP-C" requires glue and/or tape application in both the front and back of the wig, ideal for individuals with advanced hair loss. Can be worn for extended periods of time (1-2 weeks or 4-6 weeks depending in adhesive used and application method). Should be professionally applied by an experienced Cosmetologist and/or Lace wig Application expert. Our Lace Front Hair Unit wig cap ("CAP-B") is constructed with Swiss lace in the front only. Stretch Lace and adjustable straps are in the back for flexibility. Inner wig clips/combs can also be installed for a more secure fit. Our Lace Front wig cap requires glue in the front hairline only and cannot be worn in a high pony tail. Can be worn for extended periods of time (2-4 weeks or 4-6 weeks depending in adhesive used and application method). Should be professionally applied by an experienced Cosmetologist and/or Lace wig Application expert. Our GlueLess Silk Top Mono Lace Wig Cap ("CAP-A") requires no adhesive to wear. Silk top is included in its construction. It is light weight and seamless. A Snug fit & durable, with or without inner wig clips. Cannot be worn in a high pony tail. Intended for short term/daily wear. Easy to take on and off.
23) WHAT IS WIG "DENSITY"?
Density is defined as how thick or thin you want your overall Hair Units "fullness" to be. The standard and most popular choice is "Normal" density which is about 100% fullness. The average human head is considered 100% density.
24) WHAT IS "FRENCH LACE" and "SWISS LACE"?
French Lace is the most durable. It is stronger and will hold up better over the long run, French lace is slightly more detectable if it does not match the skin/complexion of the user appropriately. The Swiss lace is slightly finer than French Lace and is somewhat less detectable and blends better with the skin/complexion after application. It is also a bit less durable.
25) CAN I PART MY CUSTOM UNIT OR FRONTAL ANYWHERE?
Yes, you have several different options for parting your wig. All custom made Wig and Frontal offer a "freestyle" (can be parted anywhere) option.
26) WHAT KIND OF GLUE OR TAPE SHOULD I USE TO APPLY MY CUSTOM UNIT?
There are many glues, adhesives and tapes on the market. Choosing the right one depends on your desired hold time preference. For short term hold (3-7 days) "Safe-Grip is good. For extended wear hold (2-4 weeks and/or 4-6 weeks) "Endura-Bond", "Ultra-Hold" and "Supertape" work well. All glues and tape will require touch-ups periodically to keep wig in place and your application fresh and tidy. Some of the short term hold glues can also be dually used as extended wear glue depending on how many layers/coats of glue you apply to your skin (at least 3 coats). You must select and purchase the appropriate glue based on the manufacturer’s description and your needs. Your skins chemistry and your physical activity level also determine your actual hold time. In addition, for extended wear applications to last, the hair unit should be correctly applied by an experienced Cosmetologist and/or Lace wig Application expert.
27) I EXERCISE AND SWIM OFTEN, WILL MY CUSTOM UNIT STAY IN PLACE?
YES, the unit is just like your regular hair so you can do all normal activities with it on such as exercising, swimming, showering, sweating, etc. No one will ever know that it is not your own natural hair. The only time you do not get it wet is the first 24 hours after applying the adhesive. There are also special water proof adhesives that you can use as well. You will want to buy water proof glue like the "Ultra-Hold" or "Endura-Bond" for swimming.
28) HOW LONG MAY I WEAR MY CUSTOM UNIT?
That will depend on the strength of the adhesive you choose, and your personal comfort.
29) HOW LONG WILL MY CUSTON UNIT LAST?
Your custom unit can last for over a year before needing repairs, depending on the upkeep and usage of the unit. We provide you with full care instructions with each custom unit shipped.
